Deputy Speaker of parliament Thomas Tayebwa has accused a section of Ugandans of making false claims about themselves in order to be afforded asylum in foreign countries.
While presiding over plenary on Tuesday July 12, 2022; Tayebwa said some Ugandans are going to greater lengths to earn foreign citizenship or asylum.
Many, he said, claim falsely to be homosexuals while others claim they are facing political persecution.
“Some of them claim they are homosexuals and yet they have families here, they have been behaving like he goats in this town. They are the ones who have terrorized people’s families, sleeping with people’s daughters and what. They go the other side and claim; I am homosexual, if I go back to Uganda I’ll be hurt,” Tayebwa retorted.
Because of such practices, Tayebwa revealed that Israel is on the verge of terminating scholarships it has been giving to Ugandan students.
“We have a gentleman from Israel whom I introduced here. Under their program Agro studies, he has been taking 250 students from Uganda to Israel. Each student at the end of one year of Practical Studies earns around 60 million and they come back and do business. Now students linked up with organised cells of criminals and they started claiming political persecution, homosexuality,” Tayebwa said
Now, Tayebwa says, the Israeli Government has written to their counterparts in Kampala on this matter.
