The second of the January 6 televised hearings will take place on Monday, June 13, with the panel attempting to show Donald Trump supporters how the former president's pushing of false election fraud claims was seemingly a ploy to raise money off them.
The public hearing, which will start at 10 a.m. Eastern Time, will hear from a number of witnesses, including Trump former 2020 Election campaign manager Bill Stepien, and Chris Stirewalt, a former top editor at Fox News who called the key state of Arizona for Joe Biden on Election Night.
According to The New York Times, citing an unnamed committee aide, one part of Monday's hearing will focus on how Trump's frequent pushing of the so-called "big lie" that he won the 2020 Election was part of a major fundraising effort.
According to Federal Election Commission filings, in the eight-week period after election night in November 2020 alone, Trump and the Republican National Committee managed to raise more than $255 million as the former president continued to push his false claims of election fraud.
The Times reports that the committee has long believed that the one way they can get Trump supporters on their side is by highlighting how the money they donated to the former president was done under false pretenses.
The panel is also hoping to note how many of the hundred of people who have been charged in connection to the riot at the Capitol had cited Trump as their reason for storming the building.
