Jan. 6 hearings: Live coverage and latest updates - The Washington Post

Former Trump campaign manager Bill Stepien, citing a family emergency, canceled planned in-person testimony Monday before the House select committee investigating the Jan. 6, 2021, insurrection, the panel said shortly before it was scheduled to begin a second in a series of June hearings. A lawyer for Stepien is now scheduled to appear instead.

The focus of Monday’s hearing is the impact on the Capitol riot of Donald Trump’s repeated baseless claims that the 2020 presidential election was stolen. Panel members said they will also explore how Trump’s “big lie” drove Republican fundraising appeals after Joe Biden won the election.

Others scheduled to testify before the committee on Monday are Chris Stirewalt, a former political editor for Fox News; Benjamin Ginsberg, a Republican election lawyer; former U.S. attorney Byung J. “BJay” Pak; and Al Schmidt, a former Philadelphia city commissioner. The committee has pushed the starting time of the hearing back to 10:30 a.m. from 10 a.m. Eastern time.
