OKLAHOMA CITY —
How did Oklahoma City police handled hundreds of thousands of dollars they took from suspected criminals?
A judge is now asking the same question after a whistleblower came forward, alleging the Oklahoma City Police Department mismanaged all of that money.
Now, it appears an audit is coming.
The back-and-forth continues between the city of Oklahoma City and its former attorney, Orval Jones.
In newly fired court documents, Oklahoma City lists numerous cases where they seized money. In many incidents, that money was more than $500, with some in the thousands.

Jones argues that some of that money should not have been processed through civil court, including cases he says were tied to active criminal matters. He says the money ended up with the city instead.
The city pushed back, saying Jones did not have legal standing to challenge the process. The city also argued the money was contraband and handled under state law, which allows police to dispose of unclaimed property after notice and when it's no longer needed as evidence.
