HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The Office of Hawaiian Affairs is being sued by its CEO.
In a lawsuit filed Wednesday, Stacy Ferreira claimed the agency violated whistleblower and sunshine laws.
The lawsuit claimed OHA’s Board of Trustees’ decision to place her on leave in September was retaliation for her complaints against board chair Kai Kahele.
Ferreira claimed Kahele created a toxic work environment and repeatedly undermined Ferreira’s role as administrator.
Ferreira alleged that Kahele unlawfully pushed OHA’s biennium budget to be certified, and when she brought that to the board’s attention, and initiated an investigation from the state attorney general.
The lawsuit claimed that Kahele called a special executive session, and the board voted to remove Ferriea to avoid public scrutiny.
In addition to unspecified compensation, Ferreira demanded that she be reinstated and to void the salary increase given to her replacement, Summer Sylva.
Ferreira and her attorneys have asked for a trial by jury.
OHA said they do not have a response at this time.
