On July 15, President Lee Jae-myung stated regarding the so-called 'reporting business'—where individuals specialize in uncovering and reporting corruption and receive rewards for doing so—that “there is no need to prohibit forming a company to professionally report such cases and earn money.” He called for the elimination of practices that stigmatize repeat reporters as “professional informants” and reduce or deny rewards, and instructed officials to consider recognizing the uncovering of corruption as a legitimate activity that contributes to the community.

After receiving a report on the restructuring of the subsidy fraud reporting reward program at the Blue House State Guest House, President Lee stated, “It is government policy to pay about 30 percent of the collected amount or recovered funds from crime reporting to the whistleblower or contributor.”

He continued, “Although I made this remark jokingly, there is no need to ban people from setting up companies to specifically report such cases for profit. In the past, there were instances where rewards were withheld simply because someone made a large number of reports professionally. From now on, I would like to make it a rule not to do so.”
