Legal Action Withdrawn After DOT Puts LBI Region Road Work on ... - The SandPaper

Work to remove equipment and materials from the gateway to Long Beach Island, as part of winding down the final phase of the N.J. Department of Transportation’s Causeway expansion and rehab project until after Labor Day in Ship Bottom, isn’t expected to include full lane closures.

The DOT announced the decision to shutter the project July 13 after a tense summer in which Island officials, businesses, first responders and the public made their traffic safety concerns known in Trenton. Also on July 13, an order to show cause was filed on behalf of Long Beach Township seeking immediate relief from the work, and a hearing was scheduled for the morning of July 18.

“Based upon the NJDOT’s decision to stop work until the off-season and its subsequent clarifications of and representations regarding its plans for this week (July 17), the hearing has been adjourned and the township withdrew its order to show cause,” Tennant Magee, the Brielle-based attorney who filed the injunction request, said Monday morning.

In addition to full lane closures being off the table this week, the DOT also confirmed wind-down activities in the area of Eighth and Ninth streets and Long Beach Boulevard will be limited to short periods of time and have minimal impact, he added.
