Cozen lawyer named to Gov. Shapiro’s administration
Mira Baylson has left Philadelphia-based Cozen O’Connor to become the executive deputy secretary of state for Pennsylvania. In that role, she will work directly for Secretary of State Al Schmidt in Gov. Josh Shapiro’s administration.
The move comes just a few months after she was named to Shapiro’s transition team as legal counsel.
Baylson was part of a group of lawyers that migrated from Akin Grump Strauss Hauer & Feld in 2018 to Cozen O'Connor, where she became a member. Much of that same group previously was at Drinker Biddle & Reath, where Baylson was an associate. Prior to private practice, she spent about seven years with the Defenders Association of Philadelphia.
Baylson is a white collar criminal defense lawyer who brings with her a knowledge of state attorneys general offices and other government agencies. She was advising corporate and individual clients on legal and regulatory issues, particularly related to the intersection of civil and criminal government enforcement.
The 2008 graduate of the University of Pennsylvania Carey Law School served last year as co-counsel to Intuit Inc., the owner of Turbo Tax, in a parallel set of consumer protection investigations launched by state attorneys general and the Federal Trade Commission regarding allegations that the company misled consumers into paying for services that should have been...
