Cruz has had 2 terms

Re: “Cruz could make dual bids in 2024,” by Gromer Jeffers Jr., Monday Metro column.

Sen. Ted Cruz says, “I think the voters want to change the path we’re on.” I sincerely hope that Texas voters agree and vote our junior senator out of office in 2024.

Cruz will have had two terms, 12 years, a span of time which he himself has suggested should be sufficient for a U.S. senator. It’s time for a fresh approach.

For all of Cruz’s brilliance in pointing out perceived problems and expounding on them through Fox News, he has not shown the same capacity for working with others to come up with solutions that benefit all Americans. We need problem-solvers in Washington, and I hope that the Texas Democratic Party does not delay identifying a problem-solver to run against Cruz.

Books aren’t really banned

Re: “My books are banned by the right and the left — State politicians aren’t the only ones silencing voices,” by Jonah Winter, Sunday Opinion.

Winter’s experience with getting his children’s books published and distributed deserves much attention and should serve as a sobering reflection for your readers who have submitted letter after letter decrying the decisions by the Keller ISD and other ISD school boards to remove certain books from public school libraries.

Books that are removed from a public school library aren’t really banned at all, as they are still available from other sources. It is the pejorative use of the verb that...
