Forget being outraged at allegations of China interfering in Canada’s last two elections, Justin Trudeau wants to know who in CSIS is leaking to the media. Trudeau isn’t overly concerned with the crime; he wants to find the person exposing his cover-up.

Last December, Global News reported on CSIS briefing Trudeau on Chinese interference in Canada’s 2019 election. There were specific allegations, including that China funnelled illegal donations to 11 candidates – both Liberal and Conservative – who were seen as sympathetic to the dictators in Beijing.

Trudeau denied that he ever received such a briefing and said he didn’t know about money being sent from China’s consulate in Toronto to a number of candidates.

Last Friday, the Globe and Mail reported that not only was there interference in the 2019 election but that in the 2021 campaign, China interfered to try and help Trudeau’s Liberal Party retain power. There were boasts from Chinese diplomats about defeating Conservative MPs and candidates at odds with Beijing.

They also reported that the 11 candidates who received illegal, if secret, donations in 2019 broke down as nine Liberals and two Conservatives seen as friendly to Beijing. Neither Global, nor the Globe, have released the name of these candidates.
