A new page titled “Truth vs. Fake News” was uploaded Friday for Republican gubernatorial candidate Greg Lopez’s website, a fundraising email announced.
The purpose of the page appears to be aimed at addressing background issues that have or could arise during his candidacy. This is Lopez’s second bid at the Republican Party’s nomination for governor.
“Greg, as a public servant, and both of us, as parents and as a couple, have never hidden from our mistakes because we know they are a very real part of life, and that is why we are willing to be open and transparent about these occurrences in our past,” said his wife, Lisa, who detailed the background of one issue in a video on the page.
A settlement between Lopez and the Department of Justice, related to the Small Business Administration following his departure from the organization, was a point raised by his Republican primary opponent, Heidi Ganahl, during the Republican Rumble debates in mid-May.
The website explains that more than a year after his departure he sent an email to his former manager, SBA Chief Operating Officer Matt Varilek, regarding loans for Morreale Hotels, and three months later placed two phone calls to Stan Nakano, then the acting Region 8 administrator, regarding the same subject.
