A Macomb County woman accused of Medicaid fraud has been charged, state officials said.
Alicia Renee Hackett was arraigned Friday in the 54-B District Court in East Lansing on 11 charges, the Michigan Attorney General's Office said.
The 33-year-old is charged with a count of conspiracy to commit Medicaid fraud and 10 counts of making a false Medicaid claim, according to the office and court records.
A judge set her bond at $50,000 and scheduled Hackett's next court hearing for June 18, the attorney general's office said.
If convicted, she faces up to 10 years for the conspiracy charge and up to four years for each count of making a false Medicaid claim.
Court records did not list an attorney for Hackett on Monday.
Authorities allege the defendant submitted false claims for mileage reimbursement for medical appointments. They said she allegedly used a smartphone app to fool another app that tracked mileage to those appointments with the device's built-in GPS.
Once a trip was completed, the mileage app would automatically submit requests for reimbursement to Medicaid, which would then mail a debit card with money on it to users.
Investigators said Hackett's second app would trick the mileage app into registering that it was in other locations. The app then submitted reimbursement requests for trips that never happened.
