Michelle Obama is known for her famous quote, “When they go low, we go high,” and it seemed she followed her own advice by taking the high road after UFC fighter Josh Hokit made a false claim about her.
As Globe previously reported, Hokit, 28, won his fight against Derrick Lewis at the UFC Freedom 250 event at the White House on Sunday, June 14, on President Donald Trump‘s 80th birthday. During a post-fight interview, Hokit declared, “And lastly, Michelle Obama is a man. Am I right, America?”
On Monday, June 15, the IMO podcast host, 62, broke her silence and chose not to speak on Hokit’s false comment. Instead, she took to Instagram, sharing a video of her and her husband, former President Barack Obama, meeting with artist Njideka Akunyili and seeing the massive portrait she created of them.
“Barack and I were so honored to have @AkunyiliCrosby create our portrait for the Obama Presidential Center. Her artistic brilliance shines through — and the way she infused such life and joy into the piece is truly extraordinary,” Michelle captioned the post. “We love it, and we think everyone who visits the Center will too!”
UFC CEO Dana White has expressed his disapproval of Hokit’s words.
“I understand that the Obama’s [sic] are public figures but I’m completely against saying nasty and false things about people’s families,” White wrote in a text to Time shared on Monday. “Everyone knows my position on free speech but I hate that kind of nonsense.
