New Delhi: Motorola has clarified that its recent legal action involving social media accounts and content creators was directed at alleged misinformation around product safety, and not at legitimate reviews or criticism.
In an official statement, the company said the move was taken in response to posts and videos carrying “demonstrably false claims” that its devices had exploded or caught fire in situations where no such incidents had occurred. According to Motorola, such claims risked creating unnecessary public alarm and could mislead consumers making purchase decisions.
“Motorola has a long-standing commitment to consumer safety, product quality, and open dialogue with the communities we serve. We welcome honest feedback from consumers, reviewers, and content creators,” the company said.
It added that the legal action was initiated “in the interest of public safety” and was limited to fabricated allegations related to device safety.
The company also sought to address concerns raised by creators and industry observers following earlier reports that more than 300 social media accounts had been named in legal proceedings.
“Motorola does not seek to suppress legitimate product reviews, consumer feedback, or critical commentary, and we are committed to resolving product issues promptly and fairly through our customer service channels,” the statement said.
