Natick Psychiatrist Convicted for $11 Million Fraudulent Billing ... - Hoodline

Gustavo Kinrys, a Natick psychiatrist, was recently convicted for fraudulent billing, leading to over $11 million in fictitious charges to Medicare and private insurance companies.

As per Department of Justice records, Kinrys, 52, faced conviction for wire fraud, false statements tied to healthcare matters, and hampering a criminal healthcare investigation.

The investigation that took place between January 2015 through December 2018 showed a pattern of fraudulent billing, where Kinrys charged for unprovided services, involving $10.6 million for unexecuted transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) sessions and psychotherapy sessions.

As reported by the Department of Justice, he billed Medicare and private insurance companies for services exceeding 24 hours for a single day.

This includes his fraudulent claim of providing therapy for 70 different patients for an hour each while he was out of the country.

Kinrys made efforts to conceal his fraudulent activities from his patients, the billing organization he was partnered with, and the insurance companies with which he submitted claims.

When required to provide records to the Department of Health and Human Services about related claims, he committed further misconduct by creating fraudulent documents and made his staff do the same.
