The man arrested in Scotland accused of being an international fugitive from Rhode Island who faked his own death is claiming they've got the wrong man.
He says he's Arthur Knight.
Authorities claim he's really Nicholas Alahverdian.
The man identifying himself as Arthur Knight has reached out to NBC 10 News several times, since getting wind of a story on Alahverdian that aired Thursday. He claims he's not the Rhode Islander on the run.
Knight is free on bail in Scotland as he awaits extradition hearings.
Alahverdian is wanted on rape charges in Utah.
Alahverdian made a name for himself in Rhode Island years ago, claiming he was abused in the state's child welfare system and befriending lawmakers who pushed for reform of the Department of Children, Youth and Families.
Then two years ago, he claimed he was dying of cancer and was persistent in calls and messages wanting his story told.
A person claiming to be his wife Louise then claimed Alahverdian had died, pushing reporters, including at NBC 10 News to do a story on him.
It turns out Alahverdian was wanted in connection with the rape case in Utah and fraud charges in Ohio.
Rhode Island State Police believe he penned his own glowing obituary, planned his own funeral, and used a voice-altering device to pose as Louise.
