Nephron leadership falsified records and retaliated against whistleblower, lawsuit alleges - Post and Courier

WEST COLUMBIA — A former executive at one of the Midlands’ top employers is alleging the company’s leadership falsified records and failed to report missing fentanyl to federal authorities.

The lawsuit against Nephron Pharmaceuticals also alleges leadership engaged in discrimination and retaliation against the employee for flagging the corporate misconduct. Many of the allegations directly name Nephron CEO Lou Kennedy.

What the lawsuit says

Nola Grant, former chief human resources officer at Nephron, sued the company claiming she was subjected to discrimination based on her race and disability while employed there.

According to the lawsuit, filed in Richland County, Grant was hired in October 2022 and terminated in April 2025.

Grant also claims in court filings dated June 16 that the pharmaceutical manufacturer retaliated against her after she:

  • Reported that Nephron employees had disclosed to Grant that the company had provided the U.S. Food and Drug Administration with altered surveillance footage that the administration had requested after employees “cleared” a company warehouse in Calhoun County

  • Refused a directive from Kennedy to falsify applicant records during a federal audit

  • Reported to Nephron officials that the company had failed to report a lost amount of fentanyl to federal authorities
