New Orleans hotel owner accused of conspiring with NOPD officer to file false reports - WDSU New Orleans

New details on a federal investigation into a well-known political campaign contributor and owner of a historic hotel show that he may have conspired with a New Orleans Police Department officer to commit fraud.

According to court documents, Fouad Zeton was charged in an indictment on Thursday on charges of conspiracy to commit fraud.

Zeton is accused of working with an NOPD officer to file a false report with his homeowners' insurance company regarding stolen art.

Court documents claim that Zeton and the officer worked together to make a false report that valuable paintings were taken from Zeton's home.

The Department of Justice says Zeton's art was never stolen and was valued at much lower than he had reported to his insurance company.

The officer accused of working with Zeton was promised money from the insurance payout for filing the false reports, according to court documents.

The documents go on to say that the officer and Zeton had a phone call prior to the 911 call placed about the stolen art. Both were seen pretending not to know each other in the video recorded on the officer's body-worn camera, according to the court documents.

The DOJ says Zeton was recorded on the body-worn camera making the false claims that the art was valued at $128,500.

The police officer is accused of submitting the fake report to a claims adjuster for Zeton's homeowners' insurance.
