New OSHA Rule Protects Whistleblowers Flagging Tax Cheats - Bloomberg Law

Workers reporting potential federal income tax violations to their bosses or the government have additional protections under a new rule from the US Department of Labor.

The final rule, released Friday, covers the whistleblower provisions of the Taxpayer First Act of 2019 and takes effect March 13.

Actions protected by the rule include any “lawful act” by an employee to provide information or otherwise assist in “an investigation regarding underpayment of tax or conduct which the employee reasonably believes constitutes a violation of the internal revenue laws or any provision of Federal law relating to tax fraud.”
