A new restaurant has opened near Worthington, serving up vegan eats on the Far North Side, while a campus-area vegan spot has closed.
Zammy's Vegan Kitchen, 1155 Worthington Woods Blvd., opened April 20. Owner Mallory Konovsky said she's worked in the restaurant industry for the past 16 years before owning a restaurant of her own.
"I've always wanted to have my own place and the timing worked out," said Konovsky. "It was just a good opportunity that I needed to take. I've been working the past couple years, taking business classes, preparing myself to open my own place."
On the menu are salads, sandwiches, vegan burgers, and for the early birds, breakfast burritos and breakfast sandwiches, all made in-house.
Konovsky, who is a vegan herself, said she didn't see many options for vegan food near Worthington and Westerville.
She said she has been "blown away" by the response from Columbus' vegan community and is grateful for employees who want to see the restaurant thrive.
"We're really excited and we feel really positive about this summer," she said. "And once more people know that we're here, I feel like we'll just continue to grow. I'm just really excited for the future."
With the opening of Zammy's also comes the closing of another fast-casual vegan restaurant, Eden Burger. The restaurant will be closed at 1437 N. High St. in the University District for the "foreseeable future," according to a Facebook post that has since been taken down by the owner, Sebastian Kovach.
