Minimum wage workers can expect a bigger paycheck in the new year.
Missouri's minimum wage climbed to $11.15 per hour starting Saturday. It's an increase of 85 cents from the state minimum wage in 2021.
Missouri's minimum wage has increased by 85 cents each year since voters approved the continual increase in 2018, when the state minimum wage was $7.85.
The proposition voters passed called for the state minimum wage to increase by 85 cents every year through 2023. Minimum wage workers can expect to see the final voter-approved wage increase next year, when the minimum wage will be $12.
Missouri's minimum wage remains above the federal minimum wage of $7.25 per hour.
The state minimum wage applies to all private employers in Missouri, except retail and service businesses making less than $500,000 in annual sales. Public employers are also exempt from the state minimum wage.
The new minimum wage for 2022 also sets a new wage for tipped employees. State law requires employers to pay tipped employees at least half of the minimum wage plus the amount required to meet the new $11.15 per hour rate.
