The West Bengal government has unveiled its Budget for 2025-26 with a strong emphasis on infrastructure, flood control, state employees’ benefits and social welfare. Following finance minister Chandrima Bhattacharya’s Budget presentation on February 12, chief minister Mamata Banerjee addressed a press conference in the evening and highlighted her government’s economic strategy and political stance.

One of the key takeaways was the 4 per cent dearness allowance (DA) hike for state government employees, effective from April 1, 2025, which will take the DA to 18 per cent. This decision, aligning with the recommendations of the Sixth Pay Commission, comes amid ongoing demands for higher pay revisions, aiming to provide relief to employees amid rising inflation.
