SARPY COUNTY, Neb. —
Sarpy County Commissioners approved the county's final contract offer for non-sworn law enforcement employees.
Those union negotiations stalled after starting last July. Now employees say what they're getting is not even close to enough.
An Omaha-based labor attorney told the board they could either negotiate indefinitely, or reach that stage where you say 'this is as good as it gets.'
And that's where they were at Tuesday.
You could see the dissatisfaction on the faces of union workers right after the Sarpy County Board approved their new contract.
"The staff is at a crisis point," said Gary Young, attorney for FOP No. 3.
Dozens of members of the Sarpy FOP Lodge No. 3 showed up Tuesday.

Many work at the county's juvenile justice center.
"The consequences are severe. We've seen dramatic increases in assaults on staff. We've seen dramatic increases in assaults on children by other children in the facilities, and they don't have the staff to stop it," Young said.
Young says they want better pay to retain the staff they have, and continue to bring in new hires.
Commissioner Jim Warren says they had to make a decision now.
"Not just I, but the entire board is in total support of the JJC. We're forced with the budget issue that we had to address," Warren said.
The three-year contract comes with a 4% raise for the first year, another 4% for the second year and 3% in the third.
