North Carolina Congressman Chuck Edwards subject to House Ethics investigation - NC Newsline

A spokesman for Rep. Chuck Edwards (R-N.C.) confirmed to NC Newsline that the second-term congressman is under investigation by the House Ethics Committee, but denies any wrongdoing.

The investigation was first reported by Axios, which reported Monday that Edwards is under investigation for inappropriate conduct toward two young female staffers. NC Newsline has not independently confirmed Axios’s reporting on the details of the investigation.

Edwards’ campaign strategist Paul Shumaker told NC Newsline Monday night the investigation is “nothing about nothing,” adding that Monday’s story “only validated the source of the false allegations.”

In an earlier statement, Edwards dismissed the claims as politically motivated.

“I welcome any investigation, given the professionalism my staff has demonstrated and my commitment to serving the people of Western North Carolina,” Edwards said. “Given the current political environment we are facing in our nation, it comes as no surprise that others with their own political agendas will attempt to raise false accusations in order to create news stories.”

Edwards faces a reelection campaign in November that may decide Republican control of the U.S. House of Representatives in 2027. His opponent, farmer Jamie Ager, received early backing from the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, and the seat is on their list of “districts in play” for 2026.
