Northeastern employee arrested in bomb hoax incident on campus - The Boston Globe
A Northeastern University employee who said he was injured when a pressurized storage case exploded in his office Sept. 13 was arrested Tuesday in Texas and will be brought back to Massachusetts to face federal criminal charges related to the alleged hoax, according to legal filings.
Jason Duhaime, 45, was arrested on federal charges of conveying false information and hoaxes related to an explosive device and making material false and fictitious statements in a matter within an executive branch of the US government, according to legal filings in US District Court in Boston, where he’ll eventually appear.
Duhaime, who has fiercely denied staging the explosion, was apprehended in the western district of Texas, records show. It wasn’t immediately clear when he’ll make his first court appearance.
“The #FBI has arrested and charged a Texas man in connection with a reported explosion at Northeastern University,” the FBI tweeted, referring to Duhaime. “Details at 11:30 a.m. news conference with @bostonpolice and @DMAnews1.”
Law enforcement officials said Duhaime told them he injured his hand during the incident, which drew heavily armed police to the Holmes building on the campus around 7 p.m. on the night in question.
Two law enforcement officials briefed on the investigation told the Globe they had become skeptical because of inconsistencies in his story. The officials spoke on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to comment.
