Oklahoma psychiatrist to pay state $170K after allegedly submitting false claims to SoonerCare - KOCO

A psychiatrist from Watonga has agreed to pay the state of Oklahoma more than $170,000 after allegedly submitting false claims to SoonerCare.

WATONGA, Okla. —

A psychiatrist from Watonga has agreed to pay the state of Oklahoma more than $170,000 after allegedly submitting false claims to SoonerCare.

The Oklahoma Attorney General's Office said that Dr. Richard Zielinski agreed to pay $173,143 to the state to settle a lawsuit for allegedly making false claims to the Oklahoma Medicaid program.

According to a news release, Zielinski allegedly upcoded claims for evaluating and managing patients and submitted them to SoonerCare for payment between January 1, 2019, and June 30, 2021.

"I appreciate the thorough investigation completed by my team to recover funds that were wrongly taken from the State and, as a result, the taxpayers of Oklahoma," Drummond said. "I take very seriously all allegations of false claims and will always work to hold fraudsters accountable to the law.
