Opinion | March 30: Climate claims false, Juravinski care tops, no ... - Hamilton Spectator

False claim on climate

Regarding ‘Alarmism on climate’ (March 24): This letter’s claim of false climate alarmism is absurd and dangerous.

  • Globally, floods and extreme rainfall events are now four times more common than in 1980. (Source: Munich Re, one of largest reinsurance companies in the world)
  • University of Western Ontario researchers note that the number of heat days (greater than 30 C) in London, Ont., averaged eight per year between 1961 and 1990. Fifteen years ago, they predicted that this would reach 22 (almost triple) between 2020 and 2040 (this already occurred in 2020). The prediction for mid-century is 37. The prediction for as early as 2080 is 88: that’s more than an eightfold increase from the latter half of last century.
  • 21 of the 22 hottest years on record (thermometers were invented in the 1880s) have occurred since 2002. This is no accident or coincidence. This clearly a pattern, a trend, and a very clear warning. (Source: NASA)
  • The fire season in the western U.S. is now 106 days longer than it was in 1970. (Source: The Climate Reality Project)

I could go on … Ignoring such recent and dramatic changes is clearly irresponsible.
