Panamanian President Jose Raul Mulino insisted on Thursday that Washington DC's claims that his country decided not to charge the United States government vessels for passing through the Panama Canal are false.
Speaking at a press conference, Mulino stressed that he told Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth in their call the previous day that such a move cannot be done and that he was surprised when the US State Department made a contrary statement. He added that he instructed Ambassador to the US Jose Miguel Aleman Healy to take "firm steps" to ensure that Washington denies its claims.
Previously, the Panama Canal Authority rejected the State Department's announcement.
