Paxton whistleblowers call on Texas Supreme Court to weigh in on lawsuit after impeachment acquittal - KEYE TV CBS Austin

AUSTIN, Texas — The four whistleblowers who had sued Attorney General Ken Paxton for wrongful termination, ultimately resulting in Paxton's impeachment, said they want to bring their case back to the courts following Paxton's acquittal in the impeachment trial.

In a filing, those whistleblowers—Blake Brickman, Mark Penley, Ryan Vassar, and David Maxwell—asked the Texas Supreme Court to weigh in on the case, once again, given that the agreements to a settlement from earlier this year have not been put into place.

"We will fight for justice in this case as long as it takes," Brickman said. "We remain hopeful that the Supreme Court, like the trial court and the Court of Appeals, will reject OAG's ridiculous argument that the Attorney General is above the law."

In February, the Office of the Attorney General and the whistleblowers had reached a settlement, involving a payment of $3.3 million to the four former staffers and a public apology from Paxton. When the OAG requested the legislature allocate funds to pay for the settlement, the House General Investigating committee quietly began investigating the merits of the claims behind the settlement.
