Police say whistleblower should report assault after Aldrick Scott arrest - Breaking Belize News

By Aaron Humes: According to reports, the man who turned in American fugitive Aldrick Smith in November was assaulted over the weekend, allegedly by a relative of his.

Smith, 47, from Topeka, Kansas by way of Omaha, Nebraska, is being held on suspicion of involvement in the kidnapping and possible murder of Cari Allen, 43, of Omaha. According to Nebraska authorities, a body found in Topeka has been identified as Allen, who had been missing since November 19.

According to Channel 7 News, Shalton Fuentes, who took in and employed Smith after he fled to Belize until he allegedly confessed to Allen’s disappearance claiming it was an accident, turned Smith in after Smith’s alleged confession and authorities came to pick him up.

Asked today whether Fuentes can be offered protection by police here, Assistant Superintendent of Police Fitzroy Yearwood said Fuentes should come in and report his alleged assault so that police can officially begin to figure out what can be done.

But ASP Yearwood added that perhaps Fuentes, who wanted potential reward money for his good deed, should have laid low after doing his duty and turning Smith in.
