Politicians in Bosnia and Herzegovina used the Pride Parade to further their controversial political agendas while in Hungary the online media spread misinformation about the LGBT+ community.
In the second half of June, BIRN monitoring recorded an increase in digital rights violations in Bosnia and Herzegovina and North Macedonia, particularly in relation to the Sarajevo and Skopje Pride celebrations.
While social media users engaged in debates and some spread hate speech in both countries, politicians in Bosnia and Herzegovina were particularly active and ready in sharing their personal anti- LGBTI+ views, even on official institutional pages, mainly to appeal to the voters ahead of the autumn general elections.
Elsewhere, a range of computer fraud cases spread, while Romania seems bent on reducing the protection for whistleblowers with the recently passed law.
