Project director arrested over RM2.4m in false claims linked to undersea cable project - New Straits Times

ALOR STAR: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) arrested a company's project director over false claims amounting to about RM2.4 million.

The claims were related to payments in an undersea cable project in the northern part of the country.

MACC sources said a five-day remand order, beginning today, was issued by magistrate Noorlynna Hanim Abd Halim following an application by MACC at the Magistrate's Court 4 at the Kuala Lumpur Court Complex here today.

The 46-year-old suspect was arrested in the federal capital about 4pm yesterday when he presented himself to give a statement at the MACC office here.

"The company handling the project is believed to have overpaid approximately RM2.4 million to the contractor when the contractor submitted a claim invoice based on a document containing false details," according to the source.

Kedah MACC director Datuk Shaharom Nizam Abd Manap confirmed that the arrest and investigation were conducted in line with Section 18 of the MACC Act 2009.
