The City Council on Monday pulled a resolution that would have allowed the Pasadena Housing Rental Board Members to be paid as City employees.
City Attorney Michele Bagneris announced the item would not be heard at the start of the meeting.
“The City has identified, and will proceed with a method for compensating the Board members consistent with the City Charter which does not require a discretionary act by the City Council. As such, this item is being pulled from the agenda,” Bagneris said.
According to the Charter amendment enacted by the passage of Measure H, Board Members are to be paid 2.5 times the City’s minimum wage for a maximum 20 hours of work every week.
The City’s current minimum wage is $16.93.
At that rate, the Charter Amendment requires that members of the Board receive [$42.33] per hour for time committed to meetings for a total of no more than 20 hours per week. according to a City staff report.
“At most, the cost for all 13 members, including alternates who are entitled to attend meetings of the Board, to work the maximum of 20 hours would not exceed $11,005.80 per week until such time that the Board adopts a budget and sets a rental housing fee sufficient to pay for the necessary costs of the Board, the funds advanced by the City for the Pasadena Rental Housing Board Fund (689) are available to cover the Board’s time committed to meetings,” according to a memo in the Council’s agenda. “The proposed compensation of the members of the Board complies...
