Rep. Tedder wants to raise minimum wage, unveils plan to tackle ... - ABC NEWS 4

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) — Deon Tedder, a candidate for South Carolina Senate District 42, announced Wednesday a plan that could raise the minimum wage along with five other initiatives to make Charleston more affordable for residents.

Tedder's six-legged plan, alongside raising the minimum wage, includes pushing forward the Union Pier Development Project, creating affordable and low-income housing, curating workforce development initiatives, supporting small businesses, and addressing the racial wealth gap.

“The cost of living in Charleston is rising, and it is making it difficult for many families to afford housing, childcare, and other basic necessities,” Tedder said in a statement. “This is especially true for low-income families and families of color, but I believe that we can take action to make Charleston more affordable and to increase economic mobility for all residents.”

South Carolina's minimum wage stands the same as the federal minimum wage of $7.25 an hour. It was last raised in 2008 when it jumped from $6.55 to its current day number. Though Tedder didn't provide an on-paper number, he did express that, if elected to represent District 42, he would draft legislation that raised the minimum wage to a level that reflects the cost of living in the city.
