ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — Local law enforcement and community members are being proactive in areas more likely to be impacted by crime. The group included the RESET Team which stands for Rapid Engagement and Support in the Event of Trauma.
On Sept. 27, Roanoke City’s RESET Team, which stands for Rapid Engagement and Support in the Event of Trauma, walked the 1800 block of Gandy Drive North West and the 1800 block of Dunbar Street Northwest.
“At the present moment, without the reset team, I don’t really feel safe at home. So, you won’t see me out, unless I’m leaving out to leave out of here. And I’m hoping that this reset program will do better for this community, actually make me want to stay here longer,” said Tamika Felix, one resident in the neighborhood.
Roanoke City police analysts identified the area as one that has the potential for increased crime. The RESET team normally visits areas that have recently experienced traumatic events or ongoing criminal activity. However, on Wednesday, they worked to get ahead of the violence by providing support and services to members of the neighborhood.
They were joined by members of Roanoke Sheriff, Fire Ems, and staff from other city departments. The group handed out fliers with resources to the community. One resident tells WFXR that the added presence is appreciated.
