SA slams Ghana over 'false' xenophobia claims - Daily Sun

THE Mzansi government has hit back at the Ghanaian government, accusing it of spreading false information after it linked the killing of a Ghanaian national to alleged xenophobic attacks.

Justice and Constitutional Development Minister Mmamoloko Kubayi, who chairs the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Migration, said Ghana's statement was "factually incorrect" and risked creating a false impression that South Africa is experiencing xenophobic violence.

The Ghanaian Ministry of Foreign Affairs claimed that one of its citizens was fatally wounded during anti-immigrant demonstrations on Tuesday, 30 June.

But Kubayi said the man was killed a day earlier, on 29 June, during what police believe was an extortion-related robbery at a barbershop in Nyanga, Cape Town.

"The Ghanaian national who was fatally wounded was attacked at his place of work on Monday, 29 June 2026, in an incident that the police suspect was a criminal act, which is totally not linked to the alleged demonstrations," Kubayi said.

According to police, armed suspects entered the barbershop, demanded money from the 35-year-old victim before shooting him dead and fleeing the scene.

"The motive for the attack is believed to be extortion related," police said.

Kubayi said it was worrying that Ghana continued to issue statements based on incorrect information.
