Sabungero whistleblower indicted for 6-year-old frustrated murder case - Inquirer.net

MANILA, Philippines — The Rizal Provincial Prosecutors’ Office has affirmed its earlier finding that Julie “Dondon” Patidongan should be prosecuted for frustrated murder.

Early this year, the prosecutors’ office indicted Patidongan and filed the case in court.

Patidongan, the whistleblower in the kidnapping and disappearance of several sabungeros (cockfighting enthusiasts), then sought a reinvestigation, which the Morong, Rizal Regional Trial Court (RTC) granted.

The case is about a shooting six years ago that started with an argument about a pathway built by the victim.

During the argument on Feb. 25, 2019, Patidongan allegedly drew a gun, prompting the victim to report him to the barangay.

Then, on March 10, 2019, Patidongan allegedly alighted from his vehicle and shot the victim who was standing along a side street.

The victim managed to run away but was injured. He was brought to the hospital by his brother.

In affirming its earlier resolution, Associate Provincial Prosecutor Maria Victoria Lirio-Marmol stated that the information for frustrated murder filed against Patidongan before the Regional Trial Court, Branch 158, in Morong, Rizal, “stands and stays.”

“After a careful evaluation of the evidence presented, the undersigned finds prima facie evidence with reasonable certainty of conviction against the respondent,” Lirio-Marmol said in a resolution dated Sept. 16 and made public on Thursday.
