San Diego County supervisor to resign after sexual harassment and assault lawsuit - KCRA Sacramento

SAN DIEGO —

San Diego County Supervisor Nathan Fletcher announced he will resign days after being sued for alleged sexual harassment and assault, and ending his state Senate campaign to seek treatment for post-traumatic stress disorder and alcohol abuse.

“I will be resigning from the Board of Supervisors, effective at the end of my medical leave,” Fletcher said in a statement late Wednesday.

Fletcher said the strain on his wife and family was unbearable.

“A combination of my personal mistakes plus false accusations has created a burden that my family shouldn't have to bear,” he said.

Fletcher is married to Lorena Gonzalez, the former state Assembly member who is now chief officer of the California Labor Federation.

The lawsuit was filed by a woman who claims Fletcher kissed and groped her against her will, and stalked her on social media, the San Diego Union-Tribune reported.

The accuser worked at the county's Metropolitan Transit System from 2019 until she was terminated last month. Fletcher was chair of the system's board of directors from 2019 until he resigned Tuesday.
