Amsterdam court orders rectifications to be published on website and in Dutch newspaper, as Taylor awaits news on size of damages

SBM Offshore has published a rectification on its website after a court in the Netherlands found the company unlawfully stated, in certain publications, that Jonathan Taylor — who in 2012 blew the whistle on its corrupt activities — was a “blackmailer” and had attempted extortion.
Last week, the District Court of Amsterdam ordered SBM to publish a pre-worded statement of rectification on its website homepage, with the judge also ordering the company to pay compensation (the amount has not been determined) to Taylor for the damage suffered as a result of SBM’s descriptions of him in these publications.
According to the rectification — which can now be found towards the bottom of the company’s home page in Dutch and English — SBM stated in an article in Dutch newspaper NRC Handelsblad on 14 December 2014 that Jonathan Taylor is a ‘blackmailer’ and that the company had filed a report against him.
