Simon Cowell's new singing competition Walk the Line wrapped up last week, crowning singer Nadiah Adu-Gyamfi the winner of half a million pounds.
It's not uncommon for hopefuls on these competitions to have previously had some success in the music industry — it is their dream, after all — such as when Kevin Simm from Liberty X won The Voice UK in 2016.
Viewers noticed that Adu-Gyamfi has released songs for the Virgin EMI label under the name Moko, including a top 5 hit with Chase & Status, in 2013 and 2014, and questioned whether she should have been involved in this competition.
"I just want to take this opportunity to say THANK YOU to everyone who voted for me on Walk the Line. I love you with all my heart and deeply cherish each and every beautiful message I've received so far. But now it's time I set the record straight...," she tweeted alongside a link to an interview with The Sun.
In that interview, she said: "I have noticed that people think that I am signed under the name Moko and worth millions of pounds, however this is far from the truth. I have not performed under that name for 7 years.
"In 2014 I chose to go independent and since been an unsigned and self-managed full-time musician."
