DORCHESTER COUNTY, S.C. (WCIV) — A former employee at the Coastal Regional Center in Summerville is accused of physically attacking a patient.

Cicely Anjenet Gillispie, 50, of North Charleston was charged with assault and battery in the third degree by the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) on May 16. She was booked at the Dorchester County Detention Center and the case will be prosecuted by the First Circuit Solicitor's Office, according to SLED.

Gillispie, while working as a direct support professional for Coastal Regional Center, is suspected of punching the patient in the face and head twice with a closed fist on April 16, according to SLED. The allegations were corroborated through interviews, surveillance videos, and information provided.

According to SLED, the Coastal Regional Center is under the South Carolina Department of Disabilities and Needs (SCDDN). The patient is considered a vulnerable adult.
