EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14/CBS4) — A social media post by parody account CUSA Centel has gone viral, claiming that the Juarez Cartel is providing NIL donations to fund UTEP athletics.
Despite the post's satirical nature, it has garnered millions of views.
In response, both UTEP and the FBI were contacted for comments.
The FBI stated they are not commenting on the matter.
UTEP provided the following statement:
"The reports circulating on social media about UTEP under FBI investigation are completely false. The origin of this hoax is a parody account."
KFOX14/CBS4 has not been able to confirm the report from the tweet.
CUSA Centel also posted on November 5 a false post about Walter Hartwell White Jr to graduate from New Mexico State University with a Doctorate in Chemistry. The post stated that it will be hired as a Professor in Chemistry at the university.
