Social organisations write to CM over ‘false claims’ by MC, pollution board - Times of India

Ludhiana: The members from various social organisations have written a letter to CM Bhagwant Mann while highlighting the failures of public departments like MC and Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB) in implementing things mentioned in the district environment plan, which has been submitted to the National Green Tribunal.
They claimed that MC mentioned that there is 50 percent source segregation while monitoring committee members of NGT said in their report said that only 5 percent was happening in city. The organisations also refuted claims by the MC that mechanical sweeping takes place in the city wards.
“Then MC says there is only 7 percent gap where garbage is not reaching the secondary collection points, but in reality heaps of waste is lying in open plots in slum areas of Jaspal Bangar, Lohara, Kanganwal, Bahadur-K Road, Phase-8 of Focal Point, Sector 32 Main Market Open Plot, Sidhwan Canal Road, Main GT Road, Lohara, Chander Nagar, Karnail Singh Nagar, Urban Estate Dugri, Sector 32A area and along stretch of Buddha Nullah etc. The garbage is not being lifted properly and sometimes even heaps of solid waste keeps lying for many days.
