A social worker made bogus insurance claims for Apple products and designer clothes she claimed were left on a train or robbed in a hare-brained fraud plot masterminded by her boyfriend. Danita Osei-Birchie, 24, of Folkestone Road, East Ham, and her lover Alfred Forkuoh, 23, of Larch Avenue, , conspired with three others to defraud Lloyds and Halifax insurers out of tens of thousands of pounds.
The tricky sweethearts were spared prison at Inner London Crown Court on Tuesday (November 21), but were ordered to pay over 6,000 each in compensation after fleecing over 12,000 from the banks between them. The fraud relied on taking out insurance policies, then making claims on items they falsely claimed were lost or stolen.
Prosecutor Gregor McKinley said: "This case is about fraudulent insurance claims which the Crown says were all fraudulent from the outset, with the insurance setup to make the false claims. The false claims came very quickly after setting up the insurance, within weeks."

Osei-Birchie spilled the beans to police in an interview after he arrest in June 2022, telling cops the idea first came from her boyfriend Forkuah. The first claim of 1<968 was made on July 5, 2021 when Osei-Birchie told insurers she had left a bag with an iPhone, Macbook, and iPad on the train, just over two weeks after the insurance policy was taken out by her on June 16.
