: Musk Promises 'Thousands' of Self-Driving Teslas on U.S. Roads by End of 2025 (Motoring USA)
The California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) is reportedly considering a 30-day suspension of Tesla’s vehicle sales license due to what it claims are false advertisements related to Tesla’s autonomous driving technologies.
According to electric vehicle media outlet Electrek on the 21st (local time), the DMV has been engaged in legal disputes with Tesla for several years, repeatedly highlighting that the company’s advertisements for Autopilot and Full Self-Driving (FSD) features are misleading. The DMV insists that Tesla exaggerated the capabilities of its Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), with CEO Elon Musk also making allegedly false claims.
The DMV stated, “Tesla’s warning messages were insufficient, and the advertisements misled consumers.” Tesla previously countered that its driver warnings were adequate, but the court did not accept that defense.
A five-day hearing is scheduled in court this week, and the DMV is strongly pushing for a suspension of Tesla’s sales license.
California is the largest electric vehicle market in the United States and a key sales region for Tesla. If the license is suspended, it could significantly disrupt the company’s vehicle delivery schedule ahead of the expiration of federal tax benefits.
