Trump did not claim that Queen Elizabeth II knighted him - The Associated Press - en Español

CLAIM: Former President Donald Trump claimed on social media that the late Queen Elizabeth II knighted him in private.

AP’S ASSESSMENT: False. Trump published no such post, and a supposed screenshot circulating online has been fabricated, a Trump spokesperson confirmed to The Associated Press.

THE FACTS: In the days following the death of the queen, Britain’s longest-reigning monarch, social media users spread false claims that Trump said that the late queen had knighted him away from the public eye.

One Twitter user shared an image that resembled a screenshot of a post on Truth Social, Trump’s social media platform, on Friday. The post, which is attributed to Trump, reads, “I never told anybody but she knighted me in private.”

“This is what happens when you take too much Adderall,” the Twitter user who shared the image wrote. The tweet was shared over 4,900 times.

Other social media users attributed the notion that Trump had made the claim to the media outlet MSNBC. “Trump claims Queen Elizabeth knighted him privately. MSNBC,” one Twitter user wrote on Saturday. The tweet garnered over 40,000 likes.

The claims are false. No such post can be found on Trump’s Truth Social profile, or in numerous archived snapshots of his profile taken by the Internet Archive’s Wayback Machine since Thursday.

Liz Harrington, a Trump spokesperson, confirmed that the supposed Truth Social post is fake.

“This is not real,” Harrington wrote in an email to the AP.
