MADISON - President Donald Trump is again amplifying false claims about Wisconsin's system of elections.
Trump shared other social media users' posts and videos that claim Wisconsin has around 3 million more registered voters than adults in the state, arguing state election officials are perpetuating mass voter fraud.
The claims, which have roots in Trump's baseless campaign to sow doubt in his 2020 presidential election loss, are at the heart of conspiracy theories about Wisconsin's recent elections none of which have been proven to be true.
Here's what to know:
The claims shared by Trump allege the state has more than 7 million registered voters, which is false.
The state of Wisconsin had 3.6 active registered voters as of Jan. 1, according to the Wisconsin Elections Commission.
The state has 4.6 million inactive voters, according to the commission. That means the former voters died, moved away, registered in another state, were convicted of a felony crime, deemed incompetent to vote by a judge or were removed from the state's voter rolls because of inactivity.
People listed as inactive voters cannot vote again without registering to vote again, which requires providing a proof-of-residence document, according to the commission.
A video shared by Trump includes footage of testimony from Peter Bernegger, an election conspiracy theorist who has been convicted of fraud....
