Twitter whistleblower to join Biden admin's cybersecurity agency, report says - NBC Montana

WASHINGTON (TND) — The former security chief of Twitter, now X, who sounded the alarm over the company’s alleged mismanagement of secure information is joining the Biden administration, according to The Washington Post.

Peiter Zatko, who goes by the hacker name "Mudge," will join the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) in a part-time role. He will reportedly work with the agency to push software manufacturers to keep security in mind when developing new products.

Zatko came forward last year about practices of then-Twitter he felt posed a threat to both user and national security. He claimed that the company allowed "too many of its staff access to the platform's central controls" and that "one or more current employees may be working for a foreign intelligence service."

The company denied each of Zatko's claims. Before ultimately acquiring the company, owner Elon Musk cited Zatko's whistleblower complaints as reason to back out of the deal.

Jen Easterly, the director of the CISA, told The Washington Post that Zatko will assist the agency through a culture shift intended to continue to take the responsibility of security off customers and hold manufacturers accountable.

“Mudge joins us in a part-time capacity to help us collaboratively shape a culture of security by design that is foundational to every security team, every C-suite, and every board room in the country,”...
