UPS slashing 20,000 jobs, shuttering facilities amid U.S. trade war - Samfiru Tumarkin LLP

What’s going on at UPS?

United Parcel Service (UPS) is reportedly planning to eliminate approximately 20,000 jobs and close around 73 facilities.

A spokesperson told Reuters that the company is slashing 50 per cent of its shipping volume from Amazon, its largest customer, and cutting costs as part of a major operational restructuring.

“The world hasn’t been faced with such enormous potential impacts to trade in more than 100 years,” UPS CEO Carol Tome told investors on its recent earnings call — noting U.S. President Donald Trump’s decision to slap various countries with sweeping duties.

The bombshell update comes just days after the shipping giant announced that it’s planning to acquire Vaughan-based Andlauer Healthcare Group.
