Gaza has been transformed into an apocalyptic battleground of rubble and smoke since Israel began bombarding the Palestinian territory in early October 2023 in its war against Hamas militants. Amid the ongoing conflict, a video compilation has racked up millions of views after it circulated with a false claim that it shows the devastation from the Israel-Hamas war. It actually depicts wildfires that struck Argentina beginning October 10, 2023.

“Hair-Raising. Israel vs Palestine War Update 2023,” read text superimposed on this video, which was posted to TikTok on October 13, 2023.

The one-minute, 21-second video -- which showed five ifferent clips of raging fires -- had racked up more than two million views before it was deleted.

Fighting has raged since gunmen from the Islamist group Hamas poured over the Gaza border with Israel on October 7 -- and, according to the latest official Israeli figures, killed about 1,200 people and seized 239 hostages in the worst attack in the country's history.

Israel's retaliatory aerial bombardment and ground offensive of the densely populated territory has killed more than 12,000 people, with children comprising over two-fifths of the dead, said the Hamas government, which runs the Gaza Strip, on November 17, 2023.

The video also circulated alongside a similar claim on Facebook, as well as TikTok here, here and here, garnering an additional 3,000 views in total.
